Ingredients
-
120g (4.25oz) Blanched AlmondsUsing normal almonds will create a thicker, grainy texture and darker color
-
100g (3.5oz) Confectioners' Sugar
-
1 1/2 tsp Rose Water
-
1 1/2 tsp Almond Extract
Directions
Marzipan’s origins dates back to the late 1500s inLübeck, Germany when flour became scarce and bakers needed to create a replacement. Marzipan is an almond paste that contains additional sugar when compared to pure almond paste to make it more pliable. Marzipan is directly usable in recipes, such as truffle filling, or on its own. You can shape it into anything you’d like and even use food coloring to create fun marzipan candy in different shapes.

Note: Using normal almonds will create a thicker, grainy texture and darker color, which is also a nice variation. Finely grind the almonds in a food processor (about 3 minutes). Add the confectioners' sugar (powdered sugar) an process for 30 seconds. Add the rose water and the almond extract and process until it turns into a smooth paste. |

Special Equipment and IngredientsRose water is the essential ingredient in traditional Marzipan. If you can't find it at your local store, you can order rose water here: A food processor is a must to finely grind the almonds. I just got a new KitchenAid food processor that is by far my favorite model: I also highly recommend using a kitchen scale: |
